Criminal Defense
Yes, in the world of law and order exist some of the worst legal defenses. When these legal defenses were taking place, you can thank your lucky stars you were not on the receiving end. When you hear about these legal defenses presented by criminal defense lawyers, it will leave you shocked and surprised.
For this exact reason, it is so important for you to engage the legal representation of a reputable, experienced, and qualified criminal defense attorney or DUI lawyer depending on the crime they have accused you for. Here is a list of the worst and most insane legal defenses (But hey, some of them worked! Go figure!):
1.The Defense: The Evil Twin
Police arrested and charged Mr. Raj, a Malaysian entrepreneur, for moving 166 kilos of cannabis and 1.7 kilos of opium. In Malaysia, transporting drugs means death by hanging. His criminal defense attorney decided to play the Evil Twin card. Mr. Raj has an identical twin and each twin blamed each other for the crime, thus confusing the court. The confused court let the charges drop and let both go free!
2.The Defense: The Black Rage and The Computer Chip
A black man boarded a train in Long Island. He hated the level of service to such a degree that he decided to shoot 25 people, killing 6. He pulled out a gun because he couldn’t find a comment card to leave his feedback. Three brave passengers took him down and the police arrested him. His criminal defense attorney blamed the killing spree on “Black Rage.” His legal team said that he decided to kill because he was living in a society dominated by white people.
Oh, and this took place in the 70s. It is unclear on whether it worked or not because he decided to fire his legal team and defend himself. His new defense was that he had a computer chip implanted in his brain and even invited President Bill Clinton to take the witness stand. It didn’t work! The court convicted him of six counts of murder with 19 counts of attempted murder and sentenced him to 315 years of life imprisonment.
3.The Defense: The Idiot
The police charged the founder of healthcare service provider of violating the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. This act holds people accountable for deceiving their investors. Five officers of the healthcare service company pleaded guilty to committing fraud and turned on the founder of the company for heading the entire operation.
Even though his criminal defense attorney did not directly label him as an idiot, they did insinuate it, saying that he was so occupied running the company that he did not pay attention to the insignificant matters such as shareholders, accounts, white collar crime, and human resources.
There is more to the defense though. His legal team asked him to come into court, throw his hands up in the air, and go “What Happened?” which he did. The court did not find him guilty and he was released, but he was not let off scot-free just yet. When several shareholders accused him of fraud, winning $2.9 billion, the founder said that he would be happy to pay. Why? In his own words, “I have lots of money extra money from all that fraud.”
